This week's task is a practice activity for Part B of the exam.
Read the article below, and identify the thesis and main ideas. You should write about one sentence for the thesis, and one sentence for each main idea.
There are some words in the text that you might not be familiar with. I have written them here with their definitions.
lever: a handle
to dispense: to distribute, or give out
sanitary: free of germs or dirt
budget: an amount of money set aside for a purpose
motion-sensing: a device that senses motion (eg to turn the hand dryer on)
absenteeism: when people are absent
Don't Touch That Towel!

I think our school would benefit by investing in automatic motion-sensing hand dryers. I have several reasons for this. Children can get sick from the germ-infested paper towel dispensers we now have. There is also terrible waste when students continuously pull the lever, dispensing towels they don't really need.
First of all, this automatic hand dryer is very sanitary. Instead of pulling on a lever that has been touched by a large number of students, users can just stick their hands under the blow-dryer. No germs can get on them because there is nothing to touch.
In addition, if we buy this automatic hand dryer, we can save the school budget and trees. The money we save by not wasting paper towels can be used for educational things,such as field trips. We could even go to a tree farm and see how many trees we saved. Cutting fewer trees will make a big difference in the environment.
If the electricity happens to go out, the hand dryer, like all electric appliances, will go out too. That is ONE bad thing, but we know the lights don't go out that often. We will store extra paper towels in the custodian's room for emergencies.
So I think there is much to be said for this automatic motion-sensing hand dryer. Administrators will be glad to know that absenteeism will be lowered. Money can be saved. Finally, if the trees could talk, they would probably shout for joy, knowing that a whole school is saving a forest. Let's install automatic hand dryers at our school as soon as possible.

Main idea 2: Every towel is money I mean when towel are finish you need to get one but automatic hand dryers you just need to give money oneces.

Thesis- We should use electrical hand dryers
ReplyDeleteMain Argument 1-Automatic motion-sensing hand dryers make us sick and give germs not dry our hands.
Main Argument 2- Instead of using levers which all the students touch they should use hand dryers which blow air that doesn't have germs.
Main Argument 3- Another reason the levered hand dryers are bad is that because it uses paper and paper comes from trees, when we don't use papers less trees will be cut so we could have a better environment.
Main Argument 4- There is a small problem of electrical hand dryers, when the electricity will go out we can't use them but we can use the paper towels that is stored at the custodian's room just a little bit for an emergency.
Main Argument 5- We should use electrical hand dryers because they have much better abilities and it makes less absence and makes more trees live.
para 1- intro-: thesis: this school should get motion-sensing hand driers so germs won't be spread.

para 4- IF the power lines get cut -which is a bad thing- they can store extra paper towels incase of a emergency, but the power line doesn't get cut often so no worries.
para 5- conclusion:the thesis is repeated:the school should get motion sensing towels, with this there will be less absent students and we will save trees.

Para 2-Air blowing hand dryers are more hygiene than the others because nobody does touch a lever to have a paper towel.
Para 3- Because paper comes from trees and when we use paper towels we cut trees. So when we use air blowing hand dryers we will get less trees cut and less students sick. And we will help the environment.
